A new beginning for Syndal South Primary School
Words by Redmond Hamlett, Director
Tuesday 9th October 2024 marked a historic moment for Syndal South Primary School, Glen Waverley.
This has been one of our first Department of Education VSBA projects and we were pleased to share in the opening of the Block A + Library.
Our office has learnt a lot, particularly on how to get the most building for our client’s resources. The project experience overall has been challenging, but has been a transformative for our practice. The building marks a new beginning for the school’s public address, teaching and pedagogy for early years, and a reimagining of how a school can continue to operate. The school has been in operation since the 1960s and continues to sit neatly among the melaleucas and at the core helps students onsite to grow, develop and learn.
The building was opened by The Hon Ben Carrol MP, Minister for Education with Matt Fregon MP Ashwood and John Mullahy MP Glen Waverly (MLC), with most of the school community celebrating the event. We were able to share in the incredible moment for the school and everyone involved. We are incredibly privileged for the opportunity as architect and lead consultant.
At the end of the day, for WHDA, serving the community is why we exist.
